Voice of the Ocean
from depth to action
Eyes in the ocean.
Eyes on the ocean.
Voice of the Ocean is dedicated to advancing ocean science and increasing ocean literacy. We combine scientific integrity with storytelling to increase understanding and engagement with the ocean.
By increasing public understanding of the ocean, we help more people participate in conversations and decisions that affect marine environments. Our aim is to contribute to a future where the ocean is better understood and protected.
Ocean Science
Our fleet of nautical “robots” is constantly collecting vital data about the health of the ocean. See what they are discovering and find out more about our scientific work.
Ocean Literacy
Throughout storytelling and creativity, we promote the wonder, workings and importance of the ocean. Find out how we inspire fascination with the sea and its secrets.

Baltic blasts: Capturing the aftermath
After the Nord Stream pipeline explosions of 2022, Voice of the Ocean scientists acted fast to capture the environmental impact – while the world above was still reeling.

Most maps we use place land at the centre. Continents define the world, and the ocean becomes the space in between.
But from the ocean, the view is different.
The Spilhaus projection offers an alternative perspective. Instead of dividing the planet into separate oceans, it presents one continuous body of water, connected and global. The continents are pushed to the edges, and the ocean becomes the centre of the story.
This reflects a simple truth: there is only one ocean.
Not five. Not seven. One interconnected system that regulates climate, supports life, and connects the planet.
The way we map the world shapes how we understand it. And perhaps, how we choose to care for it.

During Allt fΓΆr sjΓΆn 2026, the Royal Swedish Sailing Society, in collaboration with Voice of the Ocean, presents the educational initiative Hej Havet! on Marina scenen.
In an inspiring conversation, you will learn how this material is used to strengthen childrenβs and young peopleβs curiosity about life below the surface and the importance of understanding the ocean, for a more conscious, knowledge-based and sustainable boating life.
Join us this 8th of March at 12:00 or the 14 of March at 13:00 at the Marina scenen at StockholmsmΓ€ssan.
See you there!
This week, our CEO Sanna Thimmig-Johansen is attending the @worldeconomicforum in Davos.
On Wednesday, she will join the programme at TPC House Ocean Day, a forum focused on solutions for a healthy and resilient ocean. The event brings together leaders, innovators, and ocean advocates to strengthen collaboration, accelerate policy progress, and mobilise finance for ocean health.
At Voice of the Ocean, we believe that a positive ocean stewardship starts with understanding. We connect science, storytelling, and knowledge to help communities, decision makers, and partners act on reliable information.
We look forward to connecting with partners, new and long standing, and to sharing insights from Davos as we continue working toward a future where everyone understands, respects, and protects the ocean.

Seasonβs greetings and best wishes for the year ahead
As the year draws to a close, we would like to thank everyone who has been part of Voice of the Oceanβs work over the past year.
Researchers, educators, ambassadors, partners, and collaborators β your shared curiosity, expertise, and commitment continue to strengthen knowledge about the ocean and make it accessible to more people.
The challenges facing the ocean are complex, but progress is built through long-term collaboration, trust in science, and a willingness to learn together.
We look forward to continuing this work in the years ahead.
Wishing you a calm holiday season and a brilliant start to the new year.
