A deeper understanding
Many of us are drawn to the ocean; we dream of beaches, breaking waves and the sights and sounds of the sea. But beyond these familiar images, the ocean’s true significance often remains out of view, and its vital role in sustaining life on Earth is still not widely understood.
At Voice of the Ocean, we are working to change that. From films to books, from computer games to journalism, our Ocean Literacy arm brings the ocean to life for audiences around the world, deepening understanding of how we shape the underwater world – and how it shapes us back.

OCEAN Dreams: Bringing hope to the Big screen
A cinematic scuba dive for a mass audience, Ocean Dreams is a giant-screen movie with a powerful message – there is still hope for the oceans, if we make the right choices.

Minecraft:
Ocean Heroes
Downloaded more than two million times, Minecraft: Ocean Heroes invites players to become ocean repairers – learning through fun, exploration, experimentation and problem-solving inside a living marine world.

Ocean Education
Despite its fundamental role in the world, the ocean and how it influences our lives is often absent from the classroom. Ocean Education is working to change that by embedding ocean literacy into everyday learning of young people.

Ocean Archive
Aiming to become one of Europe’s largest repositories of marine-related film and photography, Ocean Archive’s mission is to rescue as much of the visual memory of the ocean as possible before it disappears into analog extinction.

Ocean Culture
Ocean Culture is the strand of Voice of the Ocean devoted to restoring the sea to human awareness. It supports research and works with artists, writers, museums and cultural institutions to illuminate humanity’s long, deeply entangled relationship with the ocean.
Sibling organisations
These organisations work closely together as part of the wider VOTO family to raise ocean literacy and awareness.
Deep Sea Productions
With key projects – like the giant-screen movie Ocean Dreams – supported by VOTO, Deep Sea Productions captures stories from hidden underwater worlds and brings them to the surface in spectacular films, documentaries and cinematic productions
Deep Sea Reporter
An independent journalistic news outlet. Deep Sea Reporter draws on a global network of underwater journalists to produce in-depth multimedia ocean reportage on what is happening beneath the surface – and why it is too important to ignore.
Ocean Books
Ocean Books produces carefully curated and beautifully published titles that use knowledge, storytelling and spectacular imagery to foster a deeper connection to the ocean and a richer understanding of its living systems.
